'I taught her how to say 'I love India' in Hindi'

Payal Rohatgi

The first couple of days in the house, all of us were a bit apprehensive about taking to Jade Goody because of the Big Brother controversy.

But over time, we started sitting together and talking. She clarified about the controversy and gave her stand on it. That's obviously why she came on the show. We would listen to her because we were curious about it. She also spoke about her children and her childhood.

When she entered the house, she was overconfident because she knew the format. She would tell us the dos and don'ts on the show.

In one particular task, our hands were tied to each other. We interacted a lot during that time. I was her translator so I taught her some Hindi words -- like how to say I love India... She would memorise it the whole day because there was no paper and pen.

She thought Indian food was tasty but a little spicy. She enjoyed doing the tasks given to us.

When she learnt of her cancer, she came out of the confession room and broke down. When she told us, we started crying too.

How will she cope up with it? It's not like typhoid or malaria -- it's more serious than that, so we were all worried. Even if she tried to be calm, it showed on her face.

I am not in touch with her. I have my own family problems -- my father just had a surgery. But I wish her all the best.
