Flops rule the box office

As school and college examinations edge closer, big releases steer clear away from the marquee. Last week, we had Pryas Gupta's Siddharth-The Prisoner and Ajay Chandok's Kisse Pyar Karoon release in theatres. Both movies fared poorly.

Trade analyst Vinod Mirani gives the box office verdict.

Siddharth: The Prisoner

Cast: Rajat Kapoor, Sachin Nayak.
Director: Pryas Gupta.
Compelling story.

Too many loopholes in the plot, films tends to drag on and on.

BO Verdict: Poor.

Kisse Pyaar Karoon

Cast: Arshad Warsi), Aashish Chowdhry, Yash Tonk, Udita Goswami, Shweta Menon, Aarti Chhabria.
Director: Ajay Chandhok.
Funny in bits and parts.

Outdated film.

Number of weeks: New.
BO Verdict: Poor.

Delhi 6

Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor.
Director: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.
Terrific music.

Abhishek Bachchan, silly story, absurd end.

Number of weeks: 1.
BO Verdict: Flop.

The Stoneman Murders

Good thriller, Kay Kay.

Just another assembly-line murder mystery.

Number of weeks: 2.
BO Verdict: Non-starter.


Dev D

Cast: Abhay Deol, Mahi Gill, Kalki Koechlin, Dibyendu Bhattacharya.
Director: Anurag Kashyap.
Well-made contemporary take on Devdas, great music, good performances.

Second half tends to drag, abrupt end.

Number of weeks: 3.
BO Verdict: Flop.


Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye

Cast: Arbaaz Khan, Raima Sen, Randeep Hooda.
Director: Madhureeta Anand.
The film has quite a few sweet and quirky moments.

Tends to drag and get repetitive, does not have much to offer.

Number of weeks: 3.
BO Verdict: Flop.


Chal Chala Chal

Cast: Govinda, Reema Sen, Om Puri.
Director: Rajiv Kumar

Outdated, poorly executed film.

Number of weeks: 3.
BO Verdict: Flop.

Luck By Chance

Cast: Konkona Sen Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Juhi Chawla.
Director: Zoya Akhtar
Well-directed film, great performances and good music.

Disjointed climax.

Number of weeks: 4.
BO Verdict: Tepid.



Cast: Hurman S Baweja, Amrita Rao, Anupam Kher.
Director: Ajitpal Mangat
Good effort from Hurman.

Poor direction.

Number of weeks: 4.
