Javed Ali, live on rediff!

If you loved the songs Jashn-E-Bahaara (Jodhaa Akbar), Guzarish (Ghajini) and Arziyan (Delhi 6), Javed Ali to take credit.

The young singer, who is cousin to Lucky Ali, rose to fame with Ek Din Teri Raahon Mein from the film Naqaab. He talks to Nithya Ramani about his singing career and A R Rahman, and also sings exclusively for us.

Tell us about your first break.

I got a break as playback singer with Beti No 1. But due to controversies surrounding the film, the song did not release.

Then I sang for many films including Chameli. But the song wasn't promoted well. I also did remixes like Bin Tere Sanam, Kya Khoob Lagti Ho and Roko Na, which became hits.

I did Kajra Re. The song was a female-oriented one; Alisha Chinoi did a awesome job.

People consider Naqaab to be my first hit because it was my first solo hit. The song kickstarted my singing career. I didn't expect to sing in Naqaab. I got a call from Pritam [Chakraborty, composer] out of the blue and I recorded the song.
