You had a grand launch for the film in Bangalore?
We decided to make the pooja of the film a special one. There were quite a number of celebrities in attendance. Our purpose was to register the film in the minds of all with a bang, and I think we succeeded in doing just that.
Hindi actor Arshad Warsi, who was present on the occasion, told me that even Hindi films are not being launched in such a fascinating way. I believe that things are to be done differently to make them more effective.
The general assumption is that it will be a highly expensive film. Can Malayalam afford such expensive ventures?
I have always been alleged to be an expensive director. But on the contrary, Udayananu Tharam was completed in a budget of around Rs 2.5 crore and Notebook for about Rs 3.65 crore. Still there were reports that Note Book was completed at a cost of Rs 6 crore! Now I am being asked if Casanova will cost Rs 10 crore.
It is well known that the total collections of a Malayalam film from all sources could be somewhere around the tune of Rs 6 crore. If this is the case, then why should I make a losing proposition? The producer of the film, Dr C J Roy of Confident group, is a businessman himself and he should know about it all, right? Regarding the budget, I would say that the film will be made in a budget that a Malayalam film can afford.
