Where Devdas pines in the modern world

A quarter of Gattopardo, a small restaurant called across from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, was taken up by about 50 people.

Mingling in the crowd was Abhay Deol, dressed in a black vest, white shirt and jeans, chatting with people about his soon-to-be-released Dev D. The film's premiere was held at the MoMA on Thursday.

Deol, who is known for his unconventional roles, is excited about the release of Dev D, a movie adapted from Sarat Chandra Chatterjee's novel Devdas, which has seen several iterations on film.

Although based on the same storyline, Dev D has an urban setting and addresses contemporary youth and their coping mechanisms.
