In a summer loaded with prequels and sequels, including the new Harry Potter adventure, expect huge business, in the first half of the season, for films such as X-Men Origins, Wolverine, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Those who are looking for inventive gorefest may have a great time with Inglorious Basterds, Quentin Tarantino's first war saga, with Brad Pitt leading the cast. But that film, like Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film opens in the second half of the summer.
Oscar winner Ang Lee looks at a piece of modern Americana in Taking Woodstock an affectionate look at the counterculture musicfest and a young local (Demetri Martin) trying to save his family's run-down motel. The film to be released in the second week of August may not set the box-office on fire but could become a medium range success.
