The forthcoming Andhra Pradesh elections looks interesting as there are many parties in the fray this time. The scales have tilted with the entry of megastar Chiranjeevi (Chiru) into politics. Star power is at its zenith as many actors are either contesting the Assembly or Lok Sabha seats or campaigning.
Primarily it's a case of families (those of Chiranjeevi and Chandrababu Naidu) taking up the cause of the candidate and thereby the party. We take a look at those involved in the electioneering process beginning with the contestants.
Chiranjeevi and the Praja Rajyam Party
It's a family affair here with all the members ganging up together to push Chiranjeevi and the party to the forefront. From Surekha (Chiru's wife), Sushmita (daughter), Charan (son) to Naga Babu (Chiru's brother), Pawan Kalyan (Chiru's brother), Allu Arjun (Allu Aravind's son -- Chiru's nephew), everyone is involved in either individual campaigns or praja railu (rail yatra). Since it's the first time for the family, they are all steeped in it sparing no effort or time.
Chiranjeevi is contesting the Assembly seat from Tirupati and Palakollu (West Godavari district). His party manifesto offers food and social security to the poor in the form of gas cylinder and groceries worth Rs 200 per family and distribution of land.
Besides, Chiru has also promised education to the poor girl child from KG (kindergarden) to PG (post-graduation), deposit of Rs 1,00,000 in the name of the girl child which will be handed over to her at the age of 18. He has also assured of total prohibition in phases and importantly undertaken to probe into allegations of corruption against the two major parties of the state namely the Congress and the TDP (is he going the way he did in the movie Tagore?).
Well, Chiranjeevi may not have the political knowledge but he has substantial fan following in Andhra which may help him swing votes and he has a family which is wooing voters!
