If you grew up in the 1990s and know your television shows well, you will remember The X-Files. With its catchy tagline and hauntingly unforgettable theme music, the show should be recalled easily enough by most.

Investigations of unusual paranormal events carried out by an unlikely FBI team comprising sceptic Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and fervent believer Fox Mulder (David Duchovny), the show explored unusual happenings and sightings (all with that essential paranormal twist) peppered by hints of a romantic connection between the two lead characters.

Nearly every conceivable conspiracy theory and several urban legends all found themselves interwoven into storylines. Perhaps most telling is the fact that the show was named second only to Star Trek as the greatest cult television show by popular weekly TV Guide.
