That's right, our very first talkie back in 1931 was evidently a fantasy. I say evidently because, unfortunately, no print of Alam Ara is in known existence today, the last ones torched in a tragic fire at the National Film Archives in Pune.
Still, the plotline about a fakir splitting a fictional royal empire down the middle via prophecy, and leading to the titular princess Alam Ara being brought up by gypsies sounds like rollicking fantasy fun.
Also worth noting is the fact that with our very first chance at 'talking,' we began singing immediately, and Alam Ara had the complete entertaining package, advertised in the papers as the Talking-Singing-Dancing movie.
