'Rituda wanted a look of an ageing man, who is quite forgetful'

What was the brief given to you for Bachchan's look in The Last Lear?

Rituda [Rituparno Ghosh, director] gave me a rough sketch of the character. He wanted the look of an ageing man, who is quite forgetful. Since Amitji has a natural beard, I only had to work on the hair, which Rituda wanted long. I always do scene-wise make-up, as every scene changes, as does the character's expressions. I consulted the script before every scene, even before Amitji would read it.

Have you watched the play which inspired the The Last Lear?

I have watched the Marathi play, Natasamrat.
