From the looks of it, Amitabh Bachchan loves to experiment. Take his latest film, The Last Lear, for example. The actor is seen sporting long hair and a beard.
The person responsible for giving him this look is Deepak Sawant, Bachchan's personal make-up artist. Nithya Ramani caught up with him to tell us more.
How did you come to be Amitabh Bachchan's make-up artist?
My father was a make-up artist. I hated the film industry and didn't want anything to do with it earlier. I was working with a company that made raw materials for constructions. The company shifted its base to Pune and asked me to join them there. But I didn't want to shift to Pune.
That's when my father suggested that I join him in his line of work. So I did. My first film was Rajesh Khanna's Dushman. I was appreciated for my work, and things went well. Soon, I got offers from BR Films and Raj Khosla Films.
I was assured by Amitji that I would be his make-up man when the need arose. Three years later, he called me and I have been with him ever since.
