Did you agree to sign Ashta Chamma immediately on listening to the script?
Mohan had approached me initially for a different character -- the second lead -- the village girl. I had already done a similar role in AMAV. Yet I wanted to work with Mohan as he is an educated director, who gave me a detailed, bound script. I had already started working for Subramaniapuram then.
The casting of Ashta Chamma got delayed as Mohan was searching for his main characters. He then told me that he was planning to cast me in the lead and that he had made corrections in the script accordingly. I asked him if he was sure. So Nani (the male lead) and I re-did the photo shoot. The chemistry was right and the re-worked version looked better. As far as I was concerned, I got to do the urban character and wear different costumes too.
You (as in the character) sport a tattoo of Mahesh. Is it of the actor Mahesh Babu?
It is a fake tattoo. I am a die-hard fan of Mahesh Babu in the film. I can't reveal anything beyond that.
