'If I can tolerate my own singing, then people can do so too'

In the first part of this exclusive interview with Kamal Haasan's daughter, Shruti Haasan, we delved on the reasons why she is following in her famous father's footsteps.

In this second part, Shobha Warrier brings out the singer in Shruti and what music means to her. Excerpts:

When did this attraction to music and singing begin?

I started officially learning music when I was 14. I learnt Hindustani classical.

Why Hindustani classical?

Carnatic classical is part of your life when you grow up in Chennai. That is why I chose Hindustani. It also offered me a great deal of freedom of movement.

Was it your decision?

It was a collaborative decision.
