'When you are playing a character, you should do something that is not you'

What attracts you to do a film? You do a lot of unique roles?

First thing is of course the script, then director and then producer. Now there are two options. The director may be new and the producer may be established, and who understands how to execute and release a film and market it well.

Above all the script matters the most. Great script with a good director is fine. Great script with a bad director, you are a little unsure about him. But you give some credibility because he has chosen a good script, maybe he has some potential. It is risk. There is always risk in what you do. You can't always be safe and sit back and work with only one director.

I think people should play characters in main leads as well. I think people should do character in main leads, not caricature but it depends. Charles Nortan, Johnny Depp and Dustin Hoffman [from Graduate to Midnight Cowboy) and Brad Pitt play characters. It doesn't mean that you have to make a funny noise. Kamal Hassan does a lot of characters. I enjoy his work as an actor. In this way, you are giving the audience a lot of dimensions to see and watch. When you are playing a character, you should do something that is not you, whether it is a walk or talk or voice change or some quirks.

Did you watch any other animation movie or Tamil films to learn the accent?

No. I'm not saying it is a perfect accent. It's a thought of accent. Unless you are playing a very serious or authentic role then it is right to learn the perfect accent.

What next?

Loot, a crime comic caper with Govinda, Suniel Shetty, Mimoh and myself. Then there is Hello Darling with Eesha Koppikar, Gul Panag, Celina Jaitley and myself as the boss of the office they are working in. The film touches upon sexual abuse at the work place.

Then there is Paying Guest, a Marathi film, with Shreyas Talpade, Ashish Choudahry, Riya Sen, Celina Jaitley, Neha Dhupia, Vatsal Seth. Then there is Daddy Cool with Suniel Shetty, Chunky Pandey, Ashish Choudhary, Aftab Shivdasani, Rajpal Yadav, Prem Chipra, Tulip Joshi. I am also forward to Dhamaal 2, Jajantram Mamantram 2.

We also hear that you're a member of the jury for an International Film Festival?

It is in a place called Kazan in Russia. It is a Muslim Film Festival with films made by Muslims or films that touch aspects of how Islam is in today’s world. Shourya is being showed there, so I am there in the jury.
