'It took me two and a half years to finish the 90-minute film!'

What is Roadside Romeo about?

It is about a rich dog called Romeo, who gets abandoned on the streets of Mumbai. He meets dangerous and mean stray dogs. He also meets a bitch, with whom he falls in love with, and a villain. What happens to him on the streets is what the story is about.

What made you choose a dog as your protagonist?

The story was inspired by some stray dogs I saw playing in a garbage dump on the streets. I used to wonder abut them, so I put myself in their place and wondered how I would react to the situations they face.

How difficult is it to direct an animated film as compared to directing a film with actors?

Very difficult! Animation films are very detailed. I visualised the whole film in my head and then asked the animators to do it. In directing a normal film, if you don't get a particular scene the way you want it, you can always do a retake. In case of animation films, you have to wait for almost two days to rectify something if it is not satisfactory. It took me two and a half years to finish the 90-minute film!
