'I like to play characters I don't know'

He bowls you over with his performances, every time. From rubbing shoulders with Angelina Jolie (A Mighty Heart) to playing Tabu's unobtrusive husband in The Namesake, Irrfan Khan gets into the skin of the character effortlessly.

And now, the actor is looking to hold us spell-bound all over again as the philanderering husband in Anil Senior's Dil Kabaddi. Soha Ali Khan plays his wife in the film, which also stars Rahul Bose, Rahul Khanna, Konkana Sen Sharma and Payal Rohatgi.

Irrfan talks to Nithya Ramani about the film, and his other much-talked about film, Slumdog Millionaire.

What is Dil Kabaddi about?

It is about your dil playing kabaddi. It is about going into someone's heart, touching it and coming back. The intention is to define relationships, identify with them and get entertained by them.

I play an enthusiastic banker. He is a nice guy but a little foolish. He has a peculiar problem -- his wife doesn't allow him to sleep with her for months. What he does to satisfy his needs forms the story.
