Producing Avakkai Biryani

Sekhar Kammula donned the hat of a producer (along with his brother Chandrasekhar Kammula) for Avakkai Biryani, a film directed by Anish Kuruvilla.

Coming from Sekhar Kammula's banner, expectations were high. However, the response to the film (released a fortnight ago) has been moderate though it is slowly picking up. Sekhar found good societal values in the film which made him produce it.

Sekhar is now busy with the remake of Happy Days in Hindi -- a project he's doing in association with none other than Shekhar Kapur. He doesn't divulge much about that as he feels it's too early to talk about it.

In this interview, Sekhar Kammula outlines reasons for producing Avakkai Biryani, reacts to the reviews and response and talks of future plans. Excerpts:

Text: Radhika Rajamani
