When recovery agents knocked at Arjun's door

Arjun Rampal can identify with his role in EMI to some extent.

The actor plays Ryan, a fellow who falls into credit card debt. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Urmila Matondkar, Malaika Arora, Ashish, Chaudhary and Neha Uberoi.

Arjun tells Patcy N about his biggest loan ever and how he dealt with Sattarbhai (recovery agent played by Sanjay Dutt) in real life.

What is EMI about?

Everyone of us must have dealt with loans at some point in our lives. We all know that it is easy to get loans but to repay them difficult. EMI is a tongue in cheek look at the financial system. The whole economy is crushed because of it.

What is your role in the film?

I play Ryan, an irresponsible person who wants everything right now. This lands me into credit card debt.

Do you feel taking a loan is right or wrong?

I feel it is alright. But my forefathers never believed in taking loans.

Did you ever have to face any Sattarbhai (recovery agent played by Sanjay Dutt) in real life?

Yes, when I took a loan for my house. One day there were 4-5 men standing at my doorstep. They told me that they work for the bank and that it was time for me to pay my EMI.

What is Urmila's character in the movie?

She plays a woman whose husband has committed suicide. She wants to prove it is an accident so she can get her hands on the insurance money. That's when she goes to Sattarbhai. The situation and scenes between them are very funny. Her role in the film is the most difficult one as it funny with out being caricaturish. She has been able to evoke laughter as well as sympathy. She has done a wonderful job.
