The music video for Salman Khan's upcoming television game show, 10 Ka Dum is out. And the makers of the song, Sajid-Wajid, are very exicted about it. The music composers performed a duet on May 15, at the music launch of the show.
They gave the details to Patcy N.
What was your reaction when Salman asked you to score the music for 10 Ka Dum?
Firstly, we couldn't believe that Salmanbhai would do television because he always said, 'Nahi yaar main TV tab karoonga jab kuch mujhe excite kare aur mujhe hilade.' Looking at his excitement, we got charged up. This is a very peppy song, like an ad jingle.
What was your brief?
The video needed to talk about the concept. We were told that 10 Ka Dum should be very clear, otherwise it would sound like dus kadam. We think we have done good job.
How did you prepare for it?
We wanted the song to be popular. People should listen to it on television, they should want to download it, they should play it at parties... We did not want to restict it to a serial. Jalees Sherwani has written catchy lyrics.
Wajid, you have sung the song.
Yes. I have sung before but I didn't get a chance to sing a full-fledged song. I've just sung a couple of lines in songs. Here, I could portray my singing talent.
How did you compose it?
Whenever we sit with Salmanbhai, he gets so excited that he brings out the best in us. We were quite nervous too.
We scored the music in Partner and Mujhse Shaadi Karoge, and wanted to do something different here. We went through the music of the international game show, Power Of 10. But that did not have the Sajid-Wajid touch, or any Bollywood masala.
Shah Rukh Khan's Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hai also had a music video. And this video has a lot of attitude too.
10 Ka Dum is a different concept, and we have done the song and video accordingly. There is no need for comparison. When we compose a song, we keep in mind what the show is about. 10 Ka Dum goes with Salmanbhai's image.
There is lot of dum in the song. What about the show?
We will know that only when it comes on air. The idea is brilliant; it is a common man's game show. India will start thinking in percentages; that concept itself is new. You have to guess how our nation thinks. I would say yeh bahut paisa kamane ka chance hai.
