Bombay
Scene: The fort, where the song Tu Hi Re was picturised
Mani sir's wife, Suhasini, was my senior at the Chennai Film Institute. I did not know her but she had noticed my work and asked Mani sir to meet me. That was when the concept of Bombay was in Mani sir's mind. I had done a lot of research on the Mumbai riots, as I had lived here for seven years. So I had a fair idea of what and how it should be shot.
One memorable scene from Bombay was the fort scene. We landed at the location in Kerala and to our bad luck, it started raining. That location did not have any trees, which is ironic because Kerala is full of coconut trees and very green. I asked Mani sir decide how to shoot the scene.
Since it was raining, we could not shoot. Mani sir was very angry with me for wasting his time. After seven days of heavy rain, we finally had our way and shot the scene. That scene was one of the best scenes in the film.
