Why did you come up with the concept of a play now?
The essential feeling was to resurrect the drama troupe in the state, which is in dire straits. Drama has been facing setbacks for quite some time now and it has reached a state where the art form is on the verge of extinction. The payments are meagre as well. Hence the effort to make a difference.
Don't forget that at one point of time we had roughly about 160 troupes in Kollam alone. We have made an attempt and hopefully, the trend will be taken up by others as well.
How did you try to make it appealing to the audience?
We have seen lots of realistic dramas here though absurd ones rarely find acceptance here. So, we tried to maintain a balance, with a pattern and rhythm to interest the viewers. We were quite particular that it should have a great visual effect.
There are certain scenes which can perhaps be shown the most effectively in this medium alone. For example, how can the audience see the mirror in the part where Draupadi sees the image of Arjuna even as a heartbroken Bheema looks on? Of course, there was considerable excitement thanks to Mohanlal's presence.
