Mohanlal's second brush with the stage hogged the headlines in a big way, last week. The Malayalam actor teamed up with Mukesh in the drama titled Chayamukhi, which was performed on stage for the first time at Thrissur, Kerala recently.
His first stage performance was in Kavalam Narayana Paniker's Karnabharam, a Sanskrit play a few years ago. Incidentally that also created a lot of news.
Chayamukhi is based on a theme from the epic Mahabharatha, with Mohanlal enacting the role of the Pandava prince Bheema and Mukesh as Keechaka, the demon.
The story goes like this: Bheema gets a magic mirror Chayamukhi from Hidumbi. The mirror's power is that it can reflect the image of the viewer's object of affection. Heartbreaks ensue as Hidumbi sees Draupadi while Draupadi sees Arjuna's face.
A few days after the play was staged, Mukesh, who is also the producer of the play, narrates the whole experience in this exclusive interview. Excerpts:
