'I really learnt a lot from Jaya Bachchan'

Ever since she was little, Shahana Chatterjee loved acting. Daughter of award-winning novelist Jayabrato Chatterjee, Shahana is all set to star in her father's English film, Love Songs -- Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.

This is Jayabrato's second film after a gap of 22 years -- his first was Kehkashaan in 1985 -- and also stars stalwarts like Jaya Bachchan, Om Puri and well-known dancer Mallika Sarabhai.

As the film gets ready for release on March 28, Shahana tells Patcy N more:

I was born and brought up in Kolkata. During my school and college days, I took part in many stage dramas. I jumped at every opportunity to act. But after my graduation, I was unsure of what to do next. I went to Ahmedabad to join Mallika Sarabhai's Darpana Academy of Performing Arts. Soon, I started working for them.

I found my calling -- theatre -- there. I went to England to get a Masters degree in Theatre and Development. After completing that, I came back to India and worked as a workshop consultant in different schools and colleges. But I missed acting. So I made a conscious effort to act in plays.
