'The comfort level on the sets was good'

What made you sign Gamyam? Didn't the fact that it was being directed by a debutant deter you from taking it up?

The script was strong, and I loved it. I could relate myself to the character. The fact that Krish was directing his first film did not bother me as I have met him before. I only wondered how much of his vision could be translated on screen. When I saw the film, I was zapped as he was able to do it well. He would okay the first take and as an artist I wanted to do more. But when I saw the film I realised that Krish brought out the emotions on a restrained level.

Since Krish, Naresh and Kamalinee were friends and I also knew some of the crew, the comfort level on the sets was good. We would meet at times in the evenings and chat!

You portray a character which undergoes a transformation -- from being a rich boy you learn to understand the suffering of people and come to know more about humanity during the course of the journey. How did you prepare for the role?

I didn't do any serious preparation. Although I visualised the character, I just listened to Krish. He told me to what level I should portray my emotions; in fact he wanted them to be underplayed. The credit goes to Krish in getting out a good performance.
