'Staying away from my parents affects me to a certain extent'

Tell us about the film's shoot.

There was a lot of masti aur mazak on the sets. But as soon as the shoot started, everybody would be silent and concentrate on their work. If we did not focus, Abbas would scold us. He has a very loud and powerful voice, and is very particular.

I have a pet white mouse in the film, called Poofy. Once, during a scene with Genelia, Poofy kept shitting on my hand. I had to give 30 takes because it kept shitting! I got a scolding for this.

Your siblings, Aryan and Juhi Babbar, had proper star launches. Will you get one too?

Definitely.

What kind of relationship do you share with Juhi, Arya and Nadira Babbar?

They always encourage me, so I am very close to them.

Juhi and Nadira Babbar have given you acting lessons.

It was a great experience training with them. It is good to have experienced people around. Not only them, there are other experienced people, who train in this workshop. After my training, I will debut on stage.

What made you join?

They asked me to join. I never thought of it, as I was studying.

Why did you opt for this small role in Jaane Tu?

This is not my launch. It's just an appearance. I did it to understand how things are done in the industry, and to get some experience. I will be launched after two or three years.

What made you choose acting, since you were into advertising?

My parents were actors, so acting is in my genes. Secondly, I feel movies can touch people's heart.

How different is Prateik from the character he is playing in Jaane Tu?

I'm a normal guy. I've got a good heart, and no bad intentions. My character in the film is similar. He's has a troubled childhood, and has become a rebel. Everybody is worried about him, and his future. People think he is faltoo. He gets irritated quickly, and becomes arrogant and rude. When he's disturbed, he paints. I am like that. If I am irritated or disturbed, I read a book or start painting.

Did you have a disturbed childhood as well?

(Thinks hards) No. I won't call it a disturbed childhood. I had a different childhood.

Your mother's work and listening about her must have influenced you.

She has been a great influence on me. She has been a big motivation factor since my childhood, in whatever I do. She was so hardworking; I want to be like her.

You have been staying with your grandparents (mother's parents), and so have not lived with your father either.

I still live with my grandparents. Staying away from my parents affects me to a certain extent. But this is life and everyone have been given situations, and you have to live with it.

How often do you meet your father?

Whenever he is in town. Or whenever he calls me.
