The capes are kinda splitting at the seam this year, and the tights look a bit recycled.
Don't get me wrong, this year also sees a barrage of superhero movies, except this time it's the B-list. There are superheroes we haven't heard of, dudes who haven't had a good story arc in the comic world in ages, dudes sans spider or kryptonite, and with the exception of an unjolly green giant, this is really the year of the second-string.
Not that these aren't a fun lot. Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne put the money where their mouths are, while Frank Castle and Abe Sapien deserve more spotlight time, for sure.
Here's a look, then, at this year's class of leotard-men. May they have their time to shine:
No loser this guy. Iron Man is one of Marvel Comics' most compelling creations, and Robert Downey Jr elevated this Jon Favreau film to spectacularly super levels with his performance as charismatic drunk billionaire Tony Stark. A huge hit, and the rest of the field is really going to have to struggle to match this.
