Was the first day of shooting with Kamal Haasan?
It was not only with Kamal Haasan but with a whole lot of people. Because it was the 12th century period scene, there was a temple erected surrounded by thousands of junior artists, horses and elephants.
Was it a song sequence?
We first shot the temple scene, which was followed by a song sequence.
Were you nervous shooting with Kamal Haasan? Were you intimidated?
No. You know, Kamal Sir called me a very professional actress! I was excited about acting with an actor of his calibre but I was not intimidated by his presence. He was a very down-to-earth person. So, I didn't have any uncomfortable or anxious feelings on the sets.
He was very supportive and encouraging. I had to speak Iyengar Tamil in the whole film which meant the 12th century Tamil as well as the modern one. Though I would go to K S Ravikumar Sir to clear any doubts, it was Kamal Sir, who being an Iyengar himself, helped me with the slang. By the time shooting ended, I had become an expert in speaking the language! Most of the people on the sets would talk to me in that dialect just for fun.
