'Dasavathaaram is not hero-oriented'

Many actors in India are in awe of Kamal Haasan. How did you feel when you were offered the role?

When I was working with K S Ravikumar Sir for Varalaaru, he told me about this film. He had discussed the story with me when the idea was taking shape. So, in a way, I was a part of the project from the beginning itself.

When Ravikumar Sir asked for my dates, I was thrilled. It is like being a part of the history of Tamil cinema. People are dying to be at least in one shot with Kamal Sir. I am fortunate because I got to act with him in a film where he will be seen in 10 avatars.

It is not just that I am the lead heroine, I got to be a character that is present throughout the film. It is difficult to get such characters because movies are hero-oriented these days. That is the not the case in Dasavathaaram. So, it was a very appealing project for me.

Did you have two roles in the film?

Yes, I was acting as two characters in the film. The name of the 12th century character is Kothai, who comes at the first part of the film. Then there is a present day girl called Aandal. Both are Iyengar girls, very traditional, orthodox and religious.
