The Irish-French Deschanel spent a while preparing her singing voice, initially set on pursuing a career in musical theatre. Her acting career kicked off with a guest role on television sitcom Veronica's Closet before Lawrence Kasdan cast her in his 1999 film, Mumford.
Her first taste of the silver-screen was convincing enough for her to drop out of University and pursue acting full time, and she didn't have to wait too long for visibility.
