Bringing Dasavathaaram to life

Thota Tharrani, the national award-winning art director brings with him unparallel aesthetics and realism to film sets, whether it is a film like Nayagan or a commercial spectacle like Sivaji.

Speaking of spectacles, the latest one that Tharrani has been involved with is Kamal Haasan's upcoming magnum opus, Dasavathaaram. Joining him in creating the beautiful sets are fellow art directors, Samir Chanda and Prabhakar.

While Samir Chanda shot the 12th century temple part, Prabhakar was invloved with the overseas shots. Tharrani shot the rest of the film and its stunning climax.

Sitting in his beautifully designed studio, Tharrani spoke at length about designing the sets, and also shared some of his drawings exclusively with rediff.com. Excerpts:
