Ugly Aur Pagli, the romantic comedy starring Mallika Sherawat and Ranvir Shorey, promises 99 slaps and a kiss. And the man behind all the action is Sachin Kamlakar Khot, a television director of shows like Kaun Banega Crorepati and Kagaar.
Nithya Ramani caught up with the budding director for more.
Tell us something about yourself.
I have done a film course from the Xaviers Institute of Communication, Mumbai. I was an assistant director with UTV. I have directed several shows on television like Shanti, Kagaar and Kaun Banega Crorepati. In 2003, I moved to Jakarta to direct television shows there.
How did films come your way?
I always wanted to do films. One of the executive producers from Pritish Nandy Communications saw one of my serials and asked me if I would like to direct a film for them. I gave a presentation and immediately after that, we started shooting.
What is Ugly Aur Pagli about?
It is about a loveable loser Kabir (Ranvir) whose life is turned topsy turvy by a girl (Mallika). Mallika plays a very dominating character -- like the girls of today. She is also a source of Ranvir's fantasy.
