She has sung for most Katrina Kaif starrers, which makes her work as popular as the actress herself. Yet, how many of us actually know Akriti Kakkar?
The 21-year-old Delhi-based singer claims that actors, for whom she sings, don't know her either.
Akriti talks to Patcy N about her songs, her struggles, and also discloses that reality shows seldom give the winners any work in the industry.
When did you first start singing?
I first sang when I was four years old at my uncle's wedding. My mother, who is a post-graduate in music, saw potential in me and started training me. I started taking part in competitions in Delhi. In those days, there were not many reality shows. In one such show, Kalyanji-Anandji's Anandji was a judge. He heard me and told my father that I must join his group called Little Wonders in Mumbai.
My parents thought that shifting to Mumbai would mean that I would have to stop my studies, which they didn't want. Secondly, my father did not think Anandji was serious about me joining his group, so he did not follow it up. But after two months, we got a call from Anandji reminding us to come to Mumbai. I was only nine years old then. When I reached Mumbai, Anandji got my passport made. I celebrated Independence Day in Atlanta, USA, that year.
