'I was hanging from a helicopter for about a week'

Why did you choose to do a film on a hijack? It's so far away from anything you've done before.

I did it for the story. I love its simplicity. It is an out-and-out action story; it does not advocating anything intellectual. Also, it's about real emotions shared by a father and daughter.

How was it working with director Kunal Shivdasani?

Kunal and I have worked on commercials together before I started working in films. So we have known each other for a long time. The fact that I have a great relationship with him made the process very easygoing. It helps you perform better; you're more relaxed.

Did you do the stunts yourself?

Yes. While shooting one particular action sequence, I was hanging from a helicopter for about a week. It was very tough. We shot it at Ras Al Khaimah, near Dubai. It was so hot, about 52 degrees. I'm not sure if I'm doing this stunt again [laughs].

How do you prepare for your roles?

Honestly, I prepare for my roles by thinking hard about them. It's about understanding the character. When that is done, the change in my body language automatically follows. Like in Gangster, my character walks very stiffly. This comes from his uptight mind because he knows that the woman he loves was with another man.

In Hijack, I needed to understand what motivated my character, and all my mannerisms and reactions automatically followed.
