The 83rd birth anniversary of star filmmaker Guru Dutt seemed like the perfect time to launch a book on him.
Ten Years with Guru Dutt: Abrar Alvi's Journey, written by Sathya Saran, editor of DNA supplement Me, captures writer Abrar Alvi's memories of his close friend, Dutt, well.
On the occasion, an excerpt from the book was read out by theatre personality Dolly Thakore, and Radio Jockey Ameen Sayani. It was a novel kind of book reading, as before each passage a song from Guru Dutt's film was played.
The book takes us back into the life of Guru Dutt, and the person that he was. It also gives us a sense of who Abrar Alvi -- who directed the classic Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam, and penned many of Dutt's movies -- is.
Sadly, Abrar Alvi himself was not present at the function, as he has not been keeping well.
