The late 1960s and 1970s saw a waning in her career, thanks to younger heroines. Still, Saroja Devi's allure retained its spark; her pancake make-up and exaggerated acting, despite the criticism, had its own audience.
Her Kannada movies saw an increase. She acted in films such as Sri Renukadevi Mahathme, Gunavanthudu, Shani Prabhava and Katha Sangama.
In 1997, her re-entry in Tamil with Sivaji Ganesan in Once More, the Vijay hit, saw her scenes in Iruvar Ullam infused in the movie, much to her fans' delight.
