What's hot, what's not on TV's newest channel

Say Shaava Shaava

Ah, the big one. Chat show rivals Karan Johar and Simi Garewal unite for Say Shaava Shaava, a dance spectacular that has only one thing on its side: the blessed fact that it'll end in less than a fortnight.

The concept is simple, and reality-show moronic: Johar has a team of TV stars -- Divyanka Tripathi, Juhi Parmar, Mouni Roy, Narayani Shastri -- who will take on Garewal's small-screen studs -- Sumeet Raghavan, Apurva Agnihotri, Aman Varma and Manish Goel -- over a period of 11 nights.

Dancing or singing? Here's to both, judged by people who have already announced their lack of capability in the field, except as people who, um, spend a lot of time with entertainers? Johar came off as classically sharp in his typically filmi manner, and the newly rejuvenated Simi wasn't unbearable, actually.

The performances, however, were. Save Sumeet Raghavan's attempt at hilarity, the boys were bad and the girls were worse, with a particular rendition of Barso re guaranteed to induce AR Rahman to violence. Either that or he'll send these kids admission forms to his new music school. Now, that would make for a fun reality show.
