Taare Zameen Par
Every scene featuring Darsheel bindaas Safary in Taare Zameen Par is a steal.
This one, here, however, makes an impact in his absence too. As the concerned and compassionate art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh, Aamir Khan travels all the way from Panchgani to Mumbai to meet Ishaan's (Safary) parents and speak to them about their son's nagging dyslexia and growing alienation.
Ishaan's father refusal to empathise, instead grumbling about his son's future prospects in a cut-throat world leaves Nikumbh thoroughly frustrated. The worked up teacher, then, points out how ambition-driven mom-dads are constantly obsessed with producing engineers and doctors in the family.
Here's what he has to say: Sabhi ko apne gharon mein toppers aur rankers ugane hain. Har kisiko awwal number chahiye. Doctor, engineer, management, isse kam to bardasht hi nahi hai, 95.5%, 95.6%, 95.7, isse kam to gaali ke barabaar hai, kyon? Arre zara socho, har bache ki apni khoobi hoti hai, apni kabiliyat hoti hai, apni chahat hoti hai. Lekin nahi, har unglee ko kheech kar lambi karne mein lagein hain sab. Lage raho, chahe unglee kyon na toot jaaye.
The intensity and message, this particular scene sends out, hits home. Bravo, Mr Khan!
