'Dancing with SRK is more believable than dancing with Surya'

South Indian actor Padmapriya was in the news recently when she was slapped by Tamil director Samy, on the sets of their film, Mirugam.

But the actress is quite accomplished. Watch her play a 35-year-old small-time middle class woman in Thavamai Thavamirunthu, set in the small town of Madurai, in Tamil Nadu, and you may become a fan.

The actress recently made a trip to Mumbai to announce her Hindi debut film, Striker.

"I am a Tamil Brahmin, born in Delhi, and brought up in Punjab. I have lived in many other parts of India. I can adapt naturally to my surroundings, thanks to me being an army kid. Wherever I go, people think I'm from there! I haven't been able to put a finger to how that happens. I am trying to crack that, so that I can utilise it," she says.

She has been fairly successful in the South, having starred in quite a few critically acclaimed hits in Malayalam and Tamil cinema.

"But I have always wanted to do Hindi films. I grew up in North India, watching Hindi movies. So, in my mind, dancing around the trees with Shah Rukh Khan is more believable than, say, dancing around the trees with (Tamil star) Surya... though I know Shah Rukh wouldn't think much of it," she says.

And that's why, after spending about three years in the South, she has turned to Bollywood.
