Nominee Spotlight: Joel and Ethan Coen

The Coen Brothers -- Joel, 53 and Ethan, 50 -- might be the finest directorial team in history, a high-energy twosome who go from wacky to wicked to witty in the same breath, their movies groundbreaking but in an almost casual manner.

This year, their stark and stunning No Country For Old Men is the talk of critics over the world, and justifiably so. Instead of drooling over that mindblowing film, however, here's a quick glimpse into their five best movies.

5. Miller's Crossing (1990)

A noir thriller, Miller's Crossing is a magnificent pastiche of classic gangster cinema set in the prohibition-era of the 1930's. Gabriel Byrne plays protagonist Tom Reagan, right-hand man to the crime boss.

In a great scene, Reagan finds someone sitting in the dark of his apartment.

Tom: Hello, Bernie.
Bernie: Hello, Tom. What's the rumpus? How'd you know it was me?
Tom: You're the only one I know who'd knock and then break in.
Bernie: Your other friends wouldn't break in, huh?
Tom: My other friends want to kill me, so they wouldn't have knocked.
