9 U Me Aur Hum
Ajay Devgan's directorial debut tackled the subject of Alzheimer's with sincerity, and made for compelling viewing because of the director's wife Kajol who handed in one of the year's most underrated performances. Crippled by a bad title and an overlong first half, this film still featured one of the year's neatest-crafted soundtracks and some overwhelming scenes, especially one where Kajol, during a party to celebrate the healthy birth of her child, saunters casually onto the balcony and strokes her stomach thoughtfully, forgetting that she has already given birth to a child. It is a chilling moment, and the newbie director handles it confidently.
It is a film that tries too much visual gimmickry to have its own sense of style and the end is conflated to say the least, but there is much to appreciate in this Devgan effort -- not least his character who wears his flaws like badges of honour.
