There's no doubt that the two big Ms of the Malayalam film industry -- Mammootty and Mohanlal -- still call the shots.

Ranjith
Indeed an unlikely choice as an actor, the writer-director unleashed magic on screen as an ageing teacher who still has the fire burning within him in Jayaraj's Gulmohar. His character, Induchoodan, was a firebrand revolutionary in his youth, and his pain towards the woes of suffering people never died down.
Top Videos of 2008
It was a role originally meant for Suresh Gopi. But after Gulmohar, viewers could only imagine Ranjith as Induchoodan. Ranjith also directed Thirakkadha this year, and turned lyricist with Pakal Nakshatrangal.
