'I've grown up watching Rajnikant's films'

All your four films have been hits. What is the secret of your success?

I think I know what the audience will like. I like to be among them and observe the changing trends -- the kind of stories people will appreciate. Script is the most important ingredient. Then comes the screenplay.

Creativity becomes fake when you lose your contact with the public. I think of success, not money. If you are successful, money will follow automatically. But if you only think of money and no success, it's of no use.

Why have all your films been more inclined towards action?

I like action. I've grown up watching Rajnikant's action films.

Did you always want to be a director?

I wanted to be a writer. I have written many short stories and novels. That helped me write screenplays.

Would you ever let anybody else direct your story or vice versa?

No. I get upset when someone messes my script. I am very possessive of my scripts. If my story is to be remade, it should be directed only by me, or the person I choose.

What are your favourite films?

I loved Rang De Basanti and Tamil film, Pitamagan.

Your favourite actors and actresses?

Aamir Khan, Kamal Haasan and Kareena Kapoor.

What next?

I am concentrating on Ghajini now. I am not the type, who has films lined up one after the other. I have a couple of stories in mind.
