But the well-toned actor, who stands tall at 6'1', has proved that he is not just brawn. In 2008, he made astute choices not only when it came to his on-screen image (who else in Bollywood can carry off the turban with as much panache?), but also essayed a breadth of characters.

In a candid chat with Sandipan Dalal the superstar explains the irresistible allure of Akshay Kumar.

Growing up, were you ever called 'sexy' or were you aware of your good looks?

No. I was very ugly when I was growing up. But one of my teachers fancied me. At the time, she was going through a divorce, so maybe it wasn't because I was sexy. Just for the record, I'm not what you call good-looking. Our industry just happens to have excellent directors of photography. That's all.
