Meet the star of Subramaniapuram

She's sweet and charming and looks just like the girl next door. She's also got oodles of acting talent which surfaced in her Telugu movies Danger and Adavari Matalaku Ardhale Verule (AMAV).

Meet Swathi, whose performance as Thulasi in the latest Tamil blockbuster Subramaniapuram is getting rave reviews.

Radhika Rajamani caught up with the actress whose next release is going to be Indraganti Mohan Krishna's Ashta Chamma, to know more. Excerpts:

What prompted you to sign Subramaniapuram? Didn't the fact that it is a story of four young unemployed men helmed by a debutant director (Sasi Kumar), bother you?

For me the hassle was the language. I did not know Tamil. I did not want to dilly-dally and keep them waiting when the offer came. But the manager and others said it is not difficult to learn Tamil as I was a south Indian. Then the director (Sasi) called me and said he was impressed with my acting in AMAV. I had made my presence felt in the supporting role.

I then went to Chennai and met the director and the rest of the unit. The director was from the Bala and Ameer School of Filmmaking. I saw the passion in him and the others. I also saw the clarity of thought in Sasi Kumar and the groundwork he had done and his vision and honesty.
