Honouring Waheeda Rehman

One of yesteryear's most talented and beautiful actresses, Waheeda Rehman, was honoured with the Taj Enlighten Tareef Award by the Enlighten Film Society in collaboration with Brooke Bond Taj Mahal, for her outstanding contribution to cinema during a special screening of her film, Guide in Mumbai.

The event saw a large crowd, which seemed to grow when the actress stepped forward to receive the honour. Film journalist Bhavana Somaya and Vikram Grover, Head of HUL Beverages, who were also present, were treated to Waheeda's classic, Guide, that was screened at the event.

Guide was quite a path-breaking film for Waheeda's career, as well as Indian cinema, and was directed by Vijay Anand, and co-starring Dev Anand.

Waheeda talked about the film, and her favourite scene in it -- when she slaps her husband and walks out of the house. "Usually, when a wife is beaten in our films, she breaks down. But here, she just walks away coolly. I just love that scene," the actress said.

Waheeda also spoke about how she had requested Vijay Anand not to delete any song and dance sequence, as it would be unfair to the dancers.

As for a remake of Guide, Waheeda said today's generation may like the new version but not those in her generation. But if there were to be a remake, Waheeda claimed that Madhuri Dixit Nene would make the best Rosy.
