Ramta Jogi from Taal
It was a pleasure working with Subhash Ghai and A.R Rahman. This song was not destined to be a part of the film. There was no situation like this at that point and hence there wasn't any such requirement.
Subhashji used to teasingly call me Ramta Jogi because I have acquired this reputation of just vanishing into thin air and coming back with something superb in my mind. I need that space to let creativity ooze out of me.
Mere bare mein yeh mashoor hai ki mujhe pakadna bahut mushkil hai. But they know for a fact that if I leave I will come back with something stunningly sensational.
Everyone who has worked with me knows that I'm difficult to track down. But they also know that I am an easy going, fun loving man who just connects with people. Lekin mein kab aaonga kab jaaonga woh pata nahi chalta.
I explained the concept of Ramta Jogi to Subhashji and Rahman. They freaked over the idea. They found that character in Anil Kapoor (in the film). This is how Anil's character originated in Taal. Is gaane nay aisa rang pakad liye ki it just fell in the right place and Anil's character gradually shaped up.
Even Subhashji felt that something was amiss and that this song just filled that void. I sang Ramta Jogi -- these two words in 83 different variations but only 27 made it. Rahman said it was very difficult to edit my voice. It took him five days because he loved everything about the song and didn't know what edit out.
The remix version of the title track of Taal was also produced through this one. Ramta Jogi just freaks you out!
