Cosying up with the gals of Salsa

Amruta Khanvilkar

Age: 22.

My origin: Pune

My entry in MS: I had auditioned for Shaurya's role. Manoj Tyagi (director) really liked me but he thought I had more potential to play Neha, a bindaas and an outspoken girl.

Role in MS:I play Neha, a carefree sharp-spoken female, who maintains a brave exterior even among the men in her life. She has a different way of caring for her friends too. She is concerned though not communicative about it.

My first job: was for a television serial on Sahara Ada by Ken Ghosh.

Shooting with the gang: Vikram (Bhatt) calls me goondi of the gang, In the film my friends call me by a certain name.

I recall this scene with Ray Irani where I had to punch him on the face. After several takes I still couldn't get it right and finally I just went for it and ended up smacking Ray really hard. Ray was very forgiving.

There was also this scene with Manjari where we were getting cozy on the dance floor. She was really awkward about it, which was very entertaining to me! However, we decided to stay away from each before the public got the wrong idea. The chemistry between us is that good.

My struggling years: I came to Mumbai two and a half years ago. I was living in a two-room flat with my mom. I did a lot of television work to pay the bills. I was going for 100 auditions a week to ensure I was in the entertainment business.

I have hosted many shows but being a Mahrastrian I am often tagged as vernacular which I'm very sensitive about. But I don't let these things bother me. I know I am here to work.

Future films: Nothing for now but I want to continue working in films and television.
