Deepika's mother Ujjala, a travel agent, refuses to talk about Om Shanti Om until after it releases. But Deepika's school friends can't stop raving about the young star.
"Deepika always had it in her. Right from her school days, she would turn a lot of heads, thanks to her sheer beauty," Sahana Seth, her schoolmate says.
She adds that even after attaining such heights, Deepika did not forget her roots and credits her parents for all the support they have given her. In fact, Deepika -- according her friends -- feels that she would have never made it this far without her parents' support.
It was not as though Deepika had not followed in her father's footsteps. She played badminton till her 10th standard at Sophia school in Bangalore. But she had to take a break for her examinations. After that, she got a break in modelling.
