It's one of those big lists nobody ever agrees upon. The brave writers of Total Film magazine have brought together a collection rating the greatest heroes and villains in Hollywood history. Not actors, mind you: we're talking about characters.
Here are the top 5 saviours and scoundrels:
5. Superman / Freddy Krueger
The Man Of Steel is a no-brainer. Superman is the original comic-book hero, and Christopher Reeves brought him to life with tremendous authenticity, making us enjoy cliche and actually believe -- not just in Truth, Justice and the American Way, but in the idea of tying red towels around our shoulders and leaping off tall buildings. Ow.
Actor Robert Englund's creepy Freddy Kreuger made the Nightmare On Elm Street series work, the demented old man with long metallic nails inhabiting our dreams -- making sure audiences through the 80s stayed awake for at least a night.
