'Chak De! was a very big challenge'

Mandira has also designed for everyone barring Aamir Khan and Kajol in Fanaa but her big break came with Yash Raj's Chak De! India.

"Kunal Kohli called me for an interview for Fanaa and I was on board. It so happened that I had sent my CV to Manish Malhotra and his assistant Aditi pulled it out. She showed it to Aditya Chopra and he might have taken an opinion from Manish and Manish must have recommended my name for Chak De!."

"Chak De! was a very big challenge and remains my most enriching work till date. It only happened to me after 10 years. But of course there was Godmother where I was all by myself, without any assistants or help. But that emotional involvement only happened with Chak de! It was a team effort," she exults adding, "Whenever Adi (Aditya Chopra) thinks I am fit enough for a project they rope me in. YRF is the best production house I've ever worked with. There is a lot of work satisfaction because they are lenient with money and they are genuine."

Mandira also has a host of ad films to her credit, some of them being the Bank of Rajasthan ad with Hema Malini, Juhi Chawla's Kurkure ad. She admires designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee's work but personally likes the 60-70's look.
